Benefit The POREfessional Primer Review
Packaging
Benefit is known for its irreverent product names with cute and chic packaging. The benefit primer comes in a pretty sea blue plastic tube with a black cap. It has a small nozzle to take out the product and helps control the amount to dispense quite well. The tube is packaged in a cardboard box which comes with its set of instructions on usage, product details, date of expiry etc. The Benefit Porefessional Primer tube is smaller than what I expected but it is certainly travel friendly.
Texture
Benefit Porefessional Primer claims to have a balm like texture which pretty much holds true. It has a very silky finish which applies easily on the face. You are supposed to dab it onto your problem areas instead of rubbing it in as directed. The face primer certainly has a very silicone-y texture hence I wasn’t surprised to find the ingredient list to be full of them! This would definitely be a deterrent for those who have sensitive skin or are allergic to silicones.
Does it work on open pores?
I have suffered from open and enlarged pores pretty much all my life and I have tried every trick under the sun to minimize them. Though using toners regularly has certainly helped but the pores around my nose still bother me. The only solution was makeup and thats where comes in the need of a good primer. Benefit POREfessional Face Primer with its tempting claims seemed like the ultimate solution and I must say it did work well on that aspect. It evens out the complexion, fills in pores to a good extent but certainly does not hide them completely. As you can judge from the pictures below, the benefit the porefessional primer evened out my complexion a bit, the broken capillaries around my nose looked less prominent and the pores were blurred out.
Efficacy as a Primer
As a primer, it does a decent job. Keeps my makeup from sliding off for 6-7 hours even in hot and humid conditions. As for mattifying the face, my combination skin remains shine free for about 8-9 hours if I use the MAC Pro Longwear Foundation but only 4 hours if I’m wearing the TBS BB Cream hence it might not perform so well for those with oily skin.
Deal Breaker
Now coming to the major issue- breakout. I have been blessed with great skin and I was the girl who always had a healthy and clear complexion while all my girlfriends were worrying about their teenage acne in school. Literally nothing breaks me out and I never need to worry about the ingredient list but this is one product that ALWAYS breaks me out everytime I apply it. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I guess its because of all the silicones it contains that must be clogging my pores.
However, I found a way to make it work, afterall its crazy expensive and I couldn’t waste it. Instead of applying it all over my face, I only apply it to the problem areas- nose, under eye area and the chin which is where I primarily have enlarged pores. I avoid it on my forehead as that is where I majorly breakout with it. Least to say, a product that breaks you out is definitely not worth the money, especially if its this expensive!
This is how my skin looks with just the Benefit Porefessional. The picture is not airbrushed or softened. It is however photoshopped for cropping and watermarking. It really annoys me when people confuse “Photoshop” for airbrushing. *rant time*
Pros
1) Silky smooth and balm like texture
2) Evens out the complexion and reduces redness
3) Fills in pores and blurs them to a good extent
4) Gives a matte finish and increases the longevity of makeup
5) Cute and attractive packaging
Cons
1) Broke me out! :'(
2) Super expensive especially for the quantity
3) Does not keep the face shine free for more than 5 hours
HBM Rating
HBM Recommendation: Benefit The Porefessional Pore Minimizing Primer was neither a hit nor a miss for me. Though I absolutely love it for how well it minimized my enlarged pores but it clogged it and broke me out and my skin rarely does! I recommend you try out a sample before investing in the full sized product. If it does not break you out then you’ll surely love the results!
