Matte liquid lipsticks are so popular right now and one brand that keeps popping up every time someone raves about their favorite matte lipsticks is Colourpop. Now who does not love a good affordable brand which is known to make great quality products? Also, Colourpop is cruelty free besides being vegan so I was really tempted to try them out. I ordered a bunch of Ultra Matte Lips & Ultra Satin Lips besides the Colourpop Ultra Matte To Go Foxy Lip Set which I will be reviewing and swatching today.

Packaging
The Colourpop Foxy Lip Set is packaged in a beautiful purple cardboard box which contains 5 mini Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick. Each mini, is quite tiny and is less than half the size of a full sized product. It comes with a doe foot applicator which applies easily and is of good quality. The packaging of the Colourpop Ultra Matte Lips is pretty basic and as you can see the silver holo lettering on the product is already coming off. I haven’t even travelled with it or carried it in my makeup pouch so this was disappointing. The price is very affordable, agreed, but so is NYX and their packaging looks and feels much better.
Texture
I have dry lips and most matte liquid lipsticks emphasize the fine lines so I was a bit nervous about buying so many Colourpop Ultra Mattes. It has a liquid-y texture which dries into a completely matte finish within seconds. Yes, the lip colors are drying and it definitely emphasizes fine lines a bit. It also feels slightly tacky but nothing as bad as the L.A. Girl Flat Matte Pigment Gloss. Many have compared the texture of the Colourpop Ultra Matte to Kylie’s Lip Kits however I find the latter slightly more comfortable. If you have dry and chapped lips then I definitely recommend exfoliating them well and a dab of lip balm wouldn’t hurt either.
Shades
The Ultra Matte To Go Foxy Set consists of their best selling shades and I’m glad I chose this variant. It has a nice mix of nudes, neutrals and a deeper shade with a red as well. Now, I have to admit I have a love and hate relationship with Colourpop Matte Liquid Lipsticks. They look gorgeous in the swatch and even in the packaging, but on the lips they turn out much deeper and very dull. Shades like Beeper or Trap make me look so aged and dull. I don’t think you can wear their nude colors without a full face of makeup however the brighter shades will flatter Indian complexion quite well. The kit consists of the following shades.
Beeper- Mid toned taupe
Clueless- dusty mauve pink which surprisingly did not wash me out
Tulle- a beautiful burgundy color perfect for fall
More Better- deep berry wine again perfect for the winters
Creeper- a gorgeous red with a slight orange undertone. It has replaced MAC Ruby Woo as my current favorite red.
Pigmentation & Staying Power
The Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks have an intense color pay off and a single coat gives almost a full coverage. The nudes do look a little patchy so 2 coats might be required, however with the darker shades, you’re sorted with one coat. Coming to the wear time, being completely matte they stay put for a really long time. The only issue is that they fade from the inner corner of the mouth if you eat something oily hence requiring a touch up. I get a minimum staying power of about 5 hours, more so with the darker shades. One thing that I have noticed is, when I reapply it, the color looks very weird from the area it faded so I need to remove it completely (which is a task in itself) and then re-apply it.
Price & Shipping
With a price tag of just $ 6 for a full sized product and $18 for a mini set, I can see why everyone raves about Colourpop. It is super affordable and for the most part, it works well but it does have some drawbacks especially if you’re someone like me who suffers dry lips. As for shipping, Colourpop now ships to India and it is free for orders above $50.

HBM Rating
HBM Recommendation: Colourpop Ultra Matte To Go Set Foxy is a great mini lip set to try out some fabulous shades from their Ultra matte range. I found the texture slightly uncomfortable for my dry lips however it more than makes up for it with the pigmentation and the staying power. I bought quite a few nudes (12 to be precise) besides the kit and to be honest they do not flatter my complexion. They brighter and darker shades however are absolutely gorgeous which I totally recommend.
