I am totally obsessed with bold matte lip colors and they are certainly one of the biggest trends of the season. Sadly for me I have very dry lips which get worse in winters so I’m always on the look out for comfortable formulas but ones which are still very matte. One such range is the Faces Ultime Pro Matte Lip Crayons which were launched a few months back. The range also consists of Starry Mattes which are basically matte lip colors with very fine shimmer in it. Today, I’ll be reviewing my 2 favorite shades from both the ranges- Midnight Rose & Lasting Kiss.

Packaging
The Faces Ultime Pro Lip Crayon come in a chubby pencil form with a clear cap. I always love using lip crayons as they make lining + filling in the lips such an easy task. The pencils are color coded hence you can easily identify a particular in case you own more than one of these. My main issue with the packaging is that it needs to be sharpened and when you are spending quite a bit on a product, you hate to waste any of it due to sharpening. However, such formulas can’t really be made in retractable packaging though the wastage still hurts. The lip crayons come with a free sharpener which definitely sweetens the deal.

Shades
Like I mentioned before the range comes in 2 variants- matte and starry mattes. I got the Faces Starry Matte in Lasting Kiss which is a beautiful peachy apricot color with very fine gold shimmer. I am not a fan of shimmer in lip products and I wasn’t sure over how I would feel about this color. What I like the most is that the shimmer is very fine and it does not travel around the mouth area. Its good for parties and weddings but definitely not something I’d use often. You can also use this as a cheek tint and it would look quite pretty! Would recommend this only for light skintones as it can wash out the deeper complexions.

The other shade that I have is the Faces Matte Lip Crayon in Midnight Rose. This one is definitely the color of the season and I’m pretty sure it will be their hottest selling lip color! Its a deep bordeaux red which made me go oooh la la on first sight. I’m not crazy about reds (though I do like them) but I adore this one. Midnight Rose is not exactly a red, it kind of looks like a perfect combination of MAC Ruby Woo & Diva. The shade would flatter all skintones especially dusky beauties and is perfect for the winters.

Texture
The Faces Ultime Pro Matte Lip Crayons have a smooth formula which glides easily on the lips. I wouldn’t call it hydrating but it definitely does not feel drying and is one of those rare comfortable matte formulas. The Starry Matte does feel a bit patchy and the shimmer can settle into lip lines but the Matte Lip crayons are perfect in texture and finish.

Pigmentation & Staying Power
Faces Midnight Rose Lip Crayon is highly saturated and a single stroke gives an amazing color pay off. The Faces Lasting Kiss Lip Crayon on the other hand has medium to full pigmentation in 1-2 swipes. Both the colors are well pigmented and provide great coverage.

Lasting Kiss being a lighter shade stays put for 3 hours including light meals and snacks. The shimmer in it fades a bit unevenly which is a little disappointing. Midnight Rose lasts a solid 5+ hours and barely budges when you eat or drink. It does get patchy when you have a full meal but that is completely understandable. Overall, I like the finish and wear time of the Faces Ultime Pro Matte lip crayons better than the Starry Mattes.

2) Does not feel too drying

4) The darker shades have good staying power
5) Midnight Rose is a beautiful bold lip color which is an absolute must have
Cons of Faces Ultime Pro Matte Lip Crayons
1) Needs to be sharpened which leads to breakage
2) Lasting Kiss could have better staying power
3) Some might find it a bit pricey

HBM Recommendation: Faces Ultime Pro Matte Lip Crayons have a smooth and comfortable formula which is matte but not drying. It is well pigmented and has a good wear time. Midnight Rose is an absolute stunner and if love bold lips then this is a must have in your kitty. Faces Starry Matte Lasting Kiss has bit of an uneven finish and I am not as fond of it as the other variant. I love their matte range and totally recommend it.
