Your Guide To Hair Washing – We All Do It But What Do We Know About It?

Everybody does it . . . many people wash their hair every day, some people wash their hair once a week and there are lots of people between so how much can we really know about hair washing? How often should you really wash hair? Why do we have bad hair days and good hair days?

Let’s take a look at some of the facts;• Your body is extremely busy secreting debris and fats from the cells – aka sebum. This sebum is removed through the hair follicles. Okay, it sounds gross and that’s why we need to use shampoo but sebum does play a vital role – it is the body’s method of waterproofing and moisturizing the hair and also the skin and without it the skin and the hair would be extremely dry and flaky. Okay, an excessive amount of sebum leads to oily hair which is regarded as dirty, no less than in the civilized world. We are most often obsessed with removing any trace of sebum from our hair to leave it shiny, healthy and clean . . . or is it?

• So sebum could be gross but we do want it, it’s important to the health of our skin and hair.

• Washing your own hair too frequently might be counterproductive at best. You can test so hard to get rid of all the sebum in your hair that the body simply explores overdrive and makes even more of the darned stuff. It’s all about creating the perfect balance. The frequency in the hair wash really is a case of personal preference – if you wash your hair excessively your body just creates an excessive level of sebum but washing is essential to remove bacteria – when you don’t make your pores clean it can create other difficulties like acne.

• In the days just before hand held dryers and natural styles lots of women used to book a weekly hair appointment for a shampoo and set leaving their hair for a full week between washes. As styles have become more casual and bathing more convenient (hot tub in front of the fire anyone) we have begun to wash our hair with increasing frequency, a lot of people wash their hair in the shower every morning as a matter of routine and feel unkempt and dirty for the entire day if they don’t get their morning shampoo.

Did they all look greasy, did they smell, even though • In the days preceding the twentieth century women used to wash their hair only every month or so? Not to my knowledge.

• There is a hair washing study which ran for about 6 weeks via an Australian radio show back in 2007 after one caller happened to mention that he or she hadn’t washed his hair for a decade – 500 listeners took part in a 6 week challenge – 6 weeks without washing their hair. At the end of the “experiment” greater than 85% of the listeners said that there was no difference in the condition of their hair at all.

There are several great equipment and merchandise at thesalonoutlet.com when you do decide that it’s time and energy to treat hair to a shampoo. Appearance is extremely important nowadays – cleanliness is next to godliness as we say – and lots of people just could not imagine dealing with the day without washing their hair. Which is the problem. Leaving your hair for a while between washes on your “off days” may be the answer- just to discover how you get on.

  • I have straight hair but it gets really gross and oily all the time. Ugh, I wash my hair every alternative day to keep it clean.

Great tips, will definitely follow these. :*

Thanks sweets. Its a great post by TSO :)

  • Nice post! I wash My hair every third day I think! I have dry scalp and I don't want to make it even more dry by washing everyday...however I do think , Oily scalp should be washed alternate days! :)

  • I have been washing my hair everyday since the last 9 years and never had issues .. my hair is that oily!!! lovey tips babe :*

    • everyday?? :o omigosh. u must have really oily hair! I wash weekly and even then my hair feels sooooo dry ya :(

  • get article… but honestly, my best hair washes are the days when someone else washes them. hehehe

If I ever become a rich somebody, the 1st thing I'm going to do is keep a professional hair washer for me (I'll create that job ) LMAO

    • It depends Mehek. Since I have extremely dry hair I wash only weekly otherwise my hair becomes very dry and unmanageable. Try weekly washes then bi weekly washes and see what works the best for u!

  • You should really try Argan oil products too! Argan Oil really is very effective :) it makes the hair really silky and pretty! Its also very fragrant, I love this product very much :)

  • Use really gentle shampoos and be gentle with your hair in every way. Try not to wash your hair everyday either and don’t stay under the sun for long, that makes hair color last less. Sulfate free shampoos are the best because those help the hair color to stay in for longer and they keep hair soft and healthy looking. I use the Pro Natural’s argan
oil shampoo and conditioner, plus I use the oil itself for after a shower because my hair gets brittle easily and I dye it once in a while’’.
