L’Oreal Paris started the year with a bang by releasing a beautiful collection of red lipsticks to suit every skintone which was further endorsed by celebrities from all over the world. Personally, I am a sucker for reds and my hands automatically move towards the L’Oreal Pure Reds whenever in doubt. Though, it is extremely hard to choose one as my favorite from the range but if I had to then it would definitely be L’Oreal Paris Collection Star Red Lipstick in Pure Garnet which is a shade endorsed by Sonam Kapoor. The shade is nothing like I have tried before and what was more surprising was how well it looked on me. Read on for a detailed review on this beauty!

Packaging
The L’Oreal Collection Star Lipsticks are packaged in a classy combo of black and gold. The lipstick casing is signed by the shade’s ambassador which is something I quite like about the range. These are just like the L’Oreal Moist Matte Lipsticks be it in terms of texture, staying power etc and the only difference is the packaging. It has a color coded button which eases identification and is travel friendly as the cap shuts tightly.

Shade
Sonam Kapoor’s L’Oreal Pure Garnet Lipstick is a stunning deep wine red with a brown undertone. At first I was a bit disappointed as it looked like a deep brown shade in the bullet, very boring in my opinion. However, upon swatching its a real beauty and one of the perfect shades for fall or a cocktail party. L’Oreal Pure Garnet is suitable for medium to dusky complexion and might be a bit too intense for lighter skintones however, if you keep the rest of your makeup subtle, anyone can rock this.

Texture
L’Oreal Paris Pure Red Lipsticks have a velvety smooth texture which glides on beautifully without any tugging. Pure Garnet in particular feels a wee bit drier in comparison to rest of the shades say, Blake Lively’s Pure Scarleto or Aishwarya Rai’s Pure Brick. It does not feel too drying or uncomfortable but does settle into dry patches a bit so prior exfoliation is recommended.The Moist Matte Range of Lipsticks have a knack of breaking from the base so you have to be really careful while using them in summers.

Pigmentation
One of the many great aspects of L’Oreal Collection Star Red Lipsticks Range is the intense color pay off which is universal across the board. Some show up in a couple of swipes while others give an intense finish in a single swipe. Pure Garnet belong to the former category and is super super pigmented which shows up beautifully on the lips. Those with pigmented lips will love it to the core however that also means you need to be very careful with application as its quite hard to remove and tends to stain.

Staying Power
Most of the lipsticks in the Pure Reds collection are long staying. L’Oreal Star Red Pure Garnet easily stays put for about 6 hours. It can survive small meals and snacks but gets patchy after a full meal unless you blot it during application which is a practice one must follow with all bold lip colors anyway.

At a price tag of Rs 995, the lipsticks are definitely a bit expensive coming from L’Oreal, a drugstore brand. However, with MAC constantly raising their prices, investing in a MAC dupe of the same quality seems like a much better investment to me, unless you’re a brand loyalist.
