Hello Chicas,
2014 was definitely an year of new launches and if there is one brand that stands out for coming out with most promising products, it’d have to be Maybelline India. With the year just about to end they came out with 2 new launches- Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Pop & Maybelline The Falsies Big Eyes Dual Ended Mascara. While the mascara is quite expensive at Rs 750 but the New Electro Pops are very pocket friendly. I tried out Fierce N Tangy & Oh Orange so read on to know how well they fared with me.
Price: Rs 135 & Rs 165
Quantity: 3.5gms
Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Pop are available in 4 shades in India- Pink Shock, Berry Bomb, Oh Orange & Fierce N Tangy
Packaging
Maybelline finally came out with the packaging similar to what you get in USA & Europe to the Asian shores. I recall when the baby lips were first launched in India, everybody was a bit disappointed that they didn’t launch the cutesy packaging available outside. The Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Pop Lip Balms come in a twist up packaging with a clear cap that has the name in a bright font on it. The lip balm does not completely go inside the tube so you need to be a bit careful every time you close it as you might just end up nicking it.
Texture
Maybelline Electro Pop Baby Lips have a smooth and creamy texture. These are quite hydrating and are definitely on the heavier side in terms of consistency. It does not feel uncomfortable and my extremely dry lips in winters are quite thankful for it. They sort of remind me of Burt Bees Lip Balms but they feel a wee bit lighter on the lips.
Shades & Scents
Out of the 4 shades available in India, I got Oh Orange and Fierce N Tangy to try out. Oh Orange is a tinted lip balm and gives a nice flush of orange to the lips. These are definitely not as pigmented as the older baby lips and only add a hint of the color to the pout. Fierce N Tangy on the hand is a non tinted lip balm and is slightly yellow but that does not translate onto the lips. It has a light citrus scent while Maybelline Oh Orange totally reminds me of candy.
Efficacy & Staying Power
The New Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Pop Lip Balms definitely hydrates well and soothes the lips. I can’t comment if it will heal chapped lips as I’ve only used it for 3 days but it has definitely made my lips smoother. As for the staying power, it definitely didn’t stay put for 8 hours as claimed or even half of it. This hardly lasts for about 3 hours which included a proper meal and drinks. I am used to applying my lip balm after few hours in a day so not much of an issue for me.
While I love the vibrant packaging of the Maybelline Lip Balms but I must admit I don’t see the bright and neon color pay off like claimed. I’ve read that this might be the case with these 2 particular shades Berry More and Pink Shock are much more pigmented but I was definitely a bit disappointed. That said, you cannot really expect a lip balm to give great coverage and this definitely works quite well as one and is pretty affordable.
Pros
1) Soft and creamy texture
2) Adequately moisturizes the lips
3) It is not sticky
4) Stays put for a decent amount of time
5) Pretty affordable
6) Cute packaging and I always give brownie points to lip balms that come in a twist up packaging
Cons
1) The tint is quite light and does not provide much coverage
2) Does not stay put for 8 hrs as claimed
HBM Rating
HBM Recommendation: Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Pop in Oh Orange & Fierce n Tangy are very moisturizing lip balms and are perfect for use all year round. They keep the lips hydrated for about 3 hours and provide a light tint to the lips. Like always, this latest launch by Maybelline is a great value for money and one must give it a try!
