Maybelline has been on a roll with back to back new launches. They recently launched the Fit Me range, Lip Gradation Pencils and also the Hyper Matte Liquid Liner. I’m an eyeliner junkie and love hoarding up on liquid liners. I feel the Maybelline Colossal Liner is the best eyeliner in India for beginners and the Hyper Glossy is one of my top 5 eye liners. Least to say, Maybelline has some kickass liners in their kitty hence I had high hopes from this latest launch. Read on to know if this should be next on your must buy list or not.

Packaging
Maybelline Hyper Matte Liquid Liner comes in a packaging similar to that of the Hyper Glossy Liquid Liner. It has a white tube instead of black with the same long screw on cap. The new Maybelline liner comes with a fine tip brush which is one of my favorites as it helps in lining the thinnest of lines which ofcourse can be turned more bolder if you like. The packaging is sleek, travel friendly and will fit in the smallest of clutches.

Shade & Finish
The eyeliner is an intense jet black color which is exactly how I prefer my liners to look like. Going by the name, I was expecting the Hyper Matte Eyeliner to be well, super matte but it is anything but matte 🙁 It has more of an in between finish so I’d call it semi-matte but definitely not matte. It can definitely not replace the best matte eyeliner in India, atleast according to me which is the Lakme Absolute Shine Line. Funny how the Lakme one has shine in its name but is matte and the Maybelline liner has matte in the name but isn’t :p

Texture
The Maybelline eyeliner has a medium consistency which is neither too runny nor too gloopy. It applies very easily though I never manage to get it just right in a single stroke but then that could be because I prefer a slightly thicker winged liner. It dries quickly and does not irritate my eyes.

Pigmentation & Staying Power
The new Maybelline Matte Eyeliner is well pigmented and a single stroke gives an opaque finish. As for the wear time, it stays put for a good 6-7 hours as long as you don’t rub it. if you have a knack of rubbing your eyes then it will easily flake off. I’ve worn this to the gym and it survived pretty well. The eyeliner isn’t smudge or waterproof which isn’t really a con for me right now but might be an issue in summers when I sweat profusely.
Maybelline Hyper Matte Vs Maybelline Hyper Glossy Eyeliner Swatch & Review
Like I mentioned in my previous post, Maybelline India has been hiking up the prices this year with their new launches. The Hyper Glossy Liner costs Rs 275 for 3gms while this has a price tag of Rs 325 for 3gms. The difference in the price doesn’t seem justified however it is still a pretty good deal even at 325 bucks.

Pros of Maybelline Hyper Matte Liner
1) It has the perfect consistency which is not runny or too thick
2) Dries quickly once applied
3) An intense jet black eyeliner
4) Great pigmentation
5) Decent staying power, as long as you don’t rub your eyes
6) The fine tip brush is perfect for creating thin or thick liner
Cons of Maybelline Hyper Matte Liner
1) It does not have a matte finish and is more satin than matte.
2) Flakes off if you rub your eyes
3) More expensive than the Maybelline Hyper Glossy Liner
HBM Rating
HBM Recommendation: If you’re looking for a proper matte eyeliner then this isn’t the one for you. However, barring the finish it performs well as a liquid liner. It is easy to apply, dries quickly and provides an opaque coverage in a single stroke. Though I am a bit peeved about the price hike but it is still a great deal at this price tag.
