I still remember the hype around MUA (Makeup Academy) products a few years back. Their products were not only dirt cheap but add to it their amazing discounts and free worldwide shipping, the brand became an instant hit. I stocked up on so many of their eyeshadow palettes, blushes and highlighters back then. However, the craze soon died down (atleast for me) though they kept on adding new ranges to their makeup lines. When I recently visited my friend in Hyderabad, the hoarder that she is, got me hooked to MUA again. She had bought the MUA Romantic Efflorescence Palette recently and I loved the shades so much that she gifted it to me ^_^ Read on to know if its worth buying.

Packaging
The MUA Romantic Efflorescence Palette comes in a white palette casing with a clear lid. It contains 12 eyeshadow pans stacked in 2 rows. In my experience the packaging can be quite flimsy and I have ended up breaking 2 lids of my MUA palettes before so its best to be careful especially while travelling with them. It does not contain a mirror but comes with a dual ended sponge applicator which probably no one uses anymore. For the price, the packaging works for me but I do wish they made the lids sturdier.

Shades
The MUA Romantic Efflorescence Eye Shadow Palette contains a beautiful mix of matte, shimmery and metallic shades. Mauvey taupes, browns and greys dominate the palette. It can be used for both daytime and night looks hence its very versatile. That said, I definitely miss a good highlighting shade for the brow bone and inner corner of the eyes. Also, some of the shades in the palette are very similar upon swatching which didn’t make me too happy.

Texture
The MUA Romantic Efflorescence Palette has a soft and smooth texture. I haven’t witnessed much fallout even with the shimmery and darker shades. The shades blend easily and do not crease when applied over a good primer, I use the MUA Pro-Base Eye Primer which is a great affordable eye primer.

Pigmentation & Staying Power
I have always had a good experience with MUA palettes but this one let me down in terms of the pigmentation. The matte shades require alot of effort to show up properly and the shimmery shades aren’t too highly pigmented either. I have to use a good eyeshadow base or primer for a vibrant finish. I have previously used their Undressed palettes which are much more pigmented. I get a wear time of about 3-4 hours with a primer underneath which again isn’t that great.

MUA Romantic Efflorescence Palette Swatches & Review

While the price is super affordable and you can usually get a great deal on it from Indian websites as well, I found it as a very average palette. Yes, its good for soft romantic looks when you just want a wash of color on the lids but I prefer working with more pigmented shades. I believe MUA has much better options available and its best to skip this unless you absolutely adore the shades.
