Your eyemakeup could be on point or contour on fleek but if your foundation is patchy or cakey then thats all people are going to notice. The most important aspect besides a good foundation for a flawless base is the right tool. Earlier I used to love stippling brushes for an even, airbrushed finish but ever since I tried the beautyblender, there was no looking back. Now an original beautyblender is shizz expensive and my bestie kept raving about the BB dupe– Real Techniques Complexion Sponge so when the time came to discard my old beauty blender, I gave Real Techniques a try. Read on to know if its as good as the original beautyblender.

Beautyblender Dupe: Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge Review
The RT Miracle Complexion Sponge is packaged in a thick plastic carton which mentions all the details of the product. I bought the twin pack as Feelunique had some offer running on it and I got it at a great deal. The sponge itself is bright orange in color and is slightly different from the beautyblender in shape. This has a flat edge along with a conical shape. It is also much, much bigger than a beautyblender and this is what I prefer as it takes less time to apply foundation and covers more area in comparison.
You’re supposed to dampen the Real Techniques 2 Minute Miracle Complexion Sponge before usage. Once damped, the sponge becomes almost twice in size. I just dot some foundation on my face and using the flat edge I buff it out with a dabbing motion. You can also use the dome shaped part but I get a better coverage and finish with the flat edge. For applying the concealer, I prefer the pointy edge as it helps cover the smaller areas better. Oh and if you think powder foundations won’t work well with a sponge then think again. I’ve been using the damp Real Techniques Complexion Sponge to set my under area and it gives such a flawless finish, that no powder brush can match.
I usually clean the Real Technique Makeup Sponge with a baby shampoo every week or so depending on the usage. It dries overnight and does not lose shape after washing. The RT sponge is also more easily available in India with sites like Amazon & Flipkart selling it at a decent price.

Beautyblender vs Real Techniques Complexion Sponge
The major difference between the beautyblender and the RT sponge is the price. A single beauty blender costs $20 while the RT sponge is $6. Besides that, the shape and size are different which I have already covered. The beautyblender is also much more softer and due to that it ends up developing cracks faster (especially if you have long nails). Now before buying the RT complexion sponge, I had read that the BB is more durable but for me the experience was completely opposite.
My powder foundations also go on patchy with the beautyblender which is not the case with the RT sponge. That said, I do feel that the Real Techniques Complexion sponge soaks a little more foundation in comparison but the difference isn’t that major. They both provide exactly the same coverage and finish and having had tried them both, I will be sticking to the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge.
HBM Rating
HBM Recommendation: The Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is one of the best makeup sponges I’ve ever used. It gives a flawless finish and makes application an absolute breeze. Once you try this product you will never go back to using your fingers or brushes for applying your base products. Its a well priced sponge which is an absolute must have for a beginner or a pro.
