Packaging
The first thing that really attracted me to the Revlon ShadowLinks was the unique concept of making your own palette and the freedom of choice it provided. Its a great concept and will be extremely helpful while travelling as I hate carrying a palette for one particular shade ๐
The eyeshadow has a ‘slide’ of sorts on the side where you can link the other shades. You can choose and link any shade that you want and even create different styles of a ‘palette’ Ain’t that cool? ๐ The lid shuts tightly and will not open up in your bag. The Shadowlinks also link tightly and will not come off or drop!
Shade
Revlon Shadowlink Plum is a beautiful darkened purple color which is bound to flatter all skintones. It is more purple than plum IMO.Plum is the perfect shade for a smokey look and looks absolutely gorgeous when smoked out with black! I really like the shade and though it is a common color I bet you cannot get it at such a good price ๐
Texture
The eyeshadow has a smooth texture but it isn’t soft or stain-y. It does feel a bit dry like most matte eyeshadows but it certainly could’ve been a bit better in this aspect. Due to the dry texture blending isn’t that easy so I just apply a brown eyeshadow over it and blend ๐
Pigmentation
Revlon Colorstay Shadowlink Plum is decently pigmented and the color is buildable. A single swatch gives a light wash of color and you can easily get a good color pay off in 2-3 swipes. The pigmentation is much better with a base underneath and looks much more vibrant.
Staying Power
It lasts upto 3-4hrs without a base after which it starts creasing. However, with a primer underneath it stays put on the lids much, much longer. I usually get the same wear time from most eyeshadows without a base hence I cannot complain. So if you’re planing on wearing this to a party or for long durations then make sure you use a primer.
Pros
1) A gorgeous darkened purple shadow which suits all complexions and is a great shade for smokey eyemakeup
2) Decently pigmented which shows up really well with a base underneath
3) Stays put for a decent amount of time
4) Comes in a huge variety of 20 shades
5) Easy on the pocket making it perfect for budget beauties and beginners
6) An amazing and unique concept of building your own palette which is very travel friendly.
Cons
1) The texture is slightly on the drier side making it hard to blend
2) The staying power could’ve been better
HBM Rating
HBM Recomendation: Revlon Colorstay Shadowlink in the shade Plum is a gorgeous darkened eggplant color which is a perfect shade for a smokey look. Despite the slightly dry texture I really liked it as its a great product for the price. Not just that, the choice lies with the consumer ie us so we can choose and make our own palettes which is a very exciting concept. It makes life much easier especially while on the move. The shade Plum definitely gets a thumbs up from me and is great budget buy for beginners. With the other shades I’d suggest its best to swatch before buying as they do tend to differ in texture and pigmentation ๐
